About Carlson Championship Calls

Over 35 years ago callmaker Wendell Carlson set out to develop a duck call that would allow the average waterfowler a chance to become proficient with his calling.  He was simply tired of the junk calls that were being peddled upon the waterfowlers.  It seemed every call was different from the next, and none possessed the needed operational characteristics or the required stability demanded if one were wanting to become a really top notch caller.  His background in electronics allowed him to approach this task with a degree of exactness never before attempted.     

For well over 100 years the typical approach to call making has been simply hit or miss, whittle and hack.  The end result being that there was no real consistency in the manufacture of a call.  Consistency in manufacture, stability in operation, and quality control are essential if any line of calls is going to be functional to the point where a serious student of calling can progress in a meaningful manner.  As with all musical instruments...One will never be better than his call AND instruction will allow!

Mr. Carlson spent 3 years recording live ducks and champion callers.  He used his highly sophisticated electronic equipment to analyze the resulting waveforms and extrapolated from them the common denominators of each.  This is what led to the development of the truly unique design and sound of the Carlson Championship Duck Calls.  It’s why they are Pure Duck...from the ringing top-end to the super ducky low-end.

His next step was to develop the necessary tooling and extremely individualized equipment necessary to insure that each and every call that he produced was capable of creating the sounds the design dictated.  It is this same proprietary tooling that also insures the quality control needed to be able to say that EVERY CALL that leaves Carlson Championship Calls is functional and will do EVERYTHING serious waterfowlers, pro guides and champion callers demand.
